Joanne Borts

Joanne Borts is one of New York’s favorite theater and cabaret artists with a reputation as a performer of both American popular/theater music and the music of her Yiddish speaking family.

Joanne Borts most recently toured the US and Canada in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella starring Eartha Kitt, making stops at The Kennedy Center and Madison Square Garden along the way. In New York City she can be seen in the Folksbiene Yiddish Theatre’s Off Broadway production of On Second Avenue, and their family show Kids & Yiddish, of which she is the Director, Co-Author, and Co-Star. She has appeared on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof starring Topol, the National Tour of Funny Girl, and the original cast of Those Were the Days. Off Broadway she co-starred in the 2001 revival of Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh at the Triad Theatre, The Golden Land, On Second Avenue, and Naked Boys Singing. Regional credits include Hello Dolly at the Fireside Theatre, Annie Warbucks at the Broward Center, and the World Premiere of The Falsettos Trilogy at the Church Street Theatre in Washington, DC.

Joanne entered the Yiddish world as the child of Yiddish activists who inspired and educated her in its rich tradition at the Workmen’s Circle Schools.

“When she is on stage, the stage is hers. This is a magnificent talent!” - The Jewish Express
