Local composer and band leader Jewlia Eisenberg has scored for film and dance, and created ambitious and stellar music with and for her group, Charming Hostess. The recipient of a number of fellowships including artist in residence at MIT and Weisz Fellow for field research among Jewish women of the Gondar region of Ethiopia, Jewlia has a long history of exploring the sounds of the body and voice throughout the African and Jewish diasporas. Her scores can be heard in a number of films as well, including 2005's States of Unbelonging. Jewlia has studied both locally and as far away as Israel and Uzbekistan.
