Daniel Eshoo (Senior) has been studying and playing Middle Eastern music since 1968. He has extensive knowledge of Turkish maqam theory and Middle Eastern musics. Daniel has studied kanoun (Near Eastern lap harp) and 'ud. He has performed with the UCSB Mid East Ensemble, the Almas Arabic Ensemble, Avaz Dance Theater, the Ancient Echoes Ensemble, Smyrna Time Machine, Basilon D'Babylon, and the Sephardic ensemble Estreya d'Oro. He also appears frequently with the Smyrna Time Machine and Berkeley-based Za'atar.
